My Career(s)
aka "How did I get here?"
This website is about LobstArt Studios, where I create and sell art (fine art & poster forms) that helps tell a story. I am very interested in lobsters and much of my work is dedicated that helping tell THEIR stories. I have been drawing as long as I can remember. I have been documenting this work in sketchbooks which now fill the shelves on a large wall of the studio. I have been coming to Maine for over 40 years and my wife and I moved here permanently in early 2006. I have always enjoyed lobster as a food. I started to develop a real interest in the 'bugs" as they are known. Along the way, I began drawing them and that developed into this enterprise.
I was trained as an architect. My professional career covers 45+ years of unique professional experiences in a wide variety of aspects of the built and graphic environment. Twenty-six of those years were spent with The Rouse Company, arguably the best US real estate developer, whose priects included the creation & implementation of America's premier "new town," Columbia MD and "retail marketplaces" like Faneuil Hall Marketplace, & Harborplace. Unfortunately, The Rouse Company no loinger exists, having been purchased in 2004 by a competitor. My direct responsibilities included:
Architectural Design
Retail Development/Design
Community Development/PLanning/Design
Green/Sustainable Design
Design Management
Graphic Design
Entitlements & Governmental Processing
Story Telling
Placemaking
Ideating
and, not to forget, Lobst-artist
At this point in my career, I have two focuses, TOMe, LLC a design advisory consultancy that helps clients give focus to the development of project concepts that are remarkable, substantive, iconic, authentic, adaptable, sustainable & tell the right story.
The other is Lobstart Studios, the subject of this website.
